Tour of Britain underway as world-class cyclists prepare for Skegness finish

The 2026 Lloyds Tour of Britain Men has begun in Lincolnshire, with the second stage set to bring some of the world's leading cyclists through the county and into Skegness on Thursday afternoon.

The Lloyds Tour of Britain Men is officially underway in Lincolnshire, with attention now turning to a major day of cycling on the coast as Stage Two finishes in Skegness on Thursday.

More than 100 professional riders began the opening stage of the race in Lincoln on Wednesday, September 2, before completing a demanding route through the county and back into the city.

The race moves east on Thursday, September 3, when riders will tackle the second stage from Boston to Skegness.

Stage Two covers around 180km of Lincolnshire and is expected to provide one of the faster finishes of this year's Tour.

After leaving Boston, the peloton will travel through areas including Woodhall Spa, Horncastle and Wragby before crossing the Lincolnshire Wolds and heading towards the coast.

The route then passes through Louth, Mablethorpe and Sutton-on-Sea before riders make the final run towards Skegness.

East Lindsey District Council says the race is expected to reach the finish on Grand Parade at approximately 3.05pm, although actual timings will depend on the speed of the riders.

Spectators in Skegness are being encouraged to arrive early, with the finish area centred around Grand Parade and the seafront.

A Tour village will be based in Tower Gardens, while visitors will also be able to see team vehicles at North End Car Park.

Several parking restrictions will be in force during the day. North End Car Park and Pierside Car Park are due to be closed throughout Thursday, while Festival Car Park will be partially closed.

Temporary road restrictions will also be used along the race route as the peloton approaches.

The event marks the first time Skegness has hosted a finish in the modern Tour of Britain, although the town has a long history with elite cycle racing and was previously a regular destination during the Milk Race era.

Wednesday's opening stage also provided the first competitive action of this year's Tour, with riders starting in Lincoln before racing through the county.

The event features an international field containing riders from professional teams and national squads, bringing one of Britain's biggest cycling events to the Lincolnshire coast.

For Skegness businesses and attractions, the finish also provides an opportunity to welcome spectators into the resort during the final weeks of the summer season.

Visitors travelling into the town on Thursday are advised to allow additional time because of road closures, parking restrictions and the number of people expected around the seafront.
